Mosimane and Al Ahly confirmed their parting of ways in an announcement that caught many by surprise on Monday evening, and it mat have already affected Tau.

Mosimane was successful at Al Ahly

Mosimane joined Al Ahly in 2020 and had enjoyed success both in the local Egyptian league as well as the CAF Champions League. ‘Jingles’ as he is affectionally known, led the Red Devils to their first Champions League final in seven years during his first year at the club. He would then go on to lead them to three consecutive finals, winning two of those in the process. He also led the side to back-to-back CAF Super Cup trophies.

Internationally, Mosimane led Al Ahly to a record two consecutive FIFA Club World Cup bronze medals and then locally he led the side to an Egypt Cup and an Egyptian Super Cup. Even through a rocky spell this season, the club seemed to back the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach by rewarding him with a lucrative new contract. The recent blemishes on the mentor’s name have come with the recent 2-0 Champions League final loss to Wydad Casablanca and furthermore, a tough run of results in the league.

Pitso a big reason why Tau joined

The in demand coach is also the one who played an instrumental role in landing the signing of Bafana Bafana international Tau, from Brighton & Hove at the beginning of the season. It is no doubt that the presence of Mosimane would’ve played a huge role in helping the tricky forward to adapt to life in Egypt. Now with rumours that he could be following Mosimane out of the club, Al Ahly may have dropped a hint of what’s to come, with their latest squad selection.
