South African Twitter users have reacted in shock and confusion after a man who calls himself Dogg Dbn revealed that he had been gifted a R50 000 pair of sneakers by DJ Black Coffee

The Durban events organiser – behind the popular Wine Wednesdays in the city – boasted about his luxury custom gift on social media.

But tweeps are scratching their heads as to who Dogg Dbn is, and why he received the pricy gift.

WHO IS DOGG DBN?

Dogg Dbn – real name Lindo Buthelezi – is a successful entrepreneur and events organiser, known for founding Wine Wednesdays in Durban.

According to TshisaLive, he is also a PR guru, who has worked with Mampintsha, Disruption Boyz, DJ Tira and DJ Bongz.

He’s also the brains behind marketing and advertising agency FameUs Brands.

BLACK COFFEE GIFTS R50K SNEAKERS

Taking to Instagram, Dogg Dbn revealed that Black Coffee had gifted him a custom pair of Nike sneakers, valued at R50 000.

The industry exec also posted a receipt from luxury retailer Yawa Africa as proof.

According to the Sandton City shop, the “custom 0007 Space Jam inspired colorway” sneakers feature burnt orange, plum and olive green in crocodile skin. The sneakers also boast “purple suede and tumbled calf leather with coffee tinted soles”.

And Dogg Dbn claims he is the “only person in Africa” to own the one-of-a-kind footwear. He even changed his Instagram profile picture to that of the sneakers, with his bio now reading: “I only wear 50k sneakers”.

In fact, the sneakers are so exclusive and valuable, that the businessman had to have security present with him when picking them up at the mall.

TWEEPS REACT TO EYE-WATERING PRICE

Whilst Black Coffee and Dogg Dbn have been cited as industry friends, many tweeps are confused on why the DJ would fork out R50k for the lavish gift.

Others reacted to the exorbitant price tag.

“Expensive but ugly as f**k”

“R50k?? Nkosi yam, do they have shocks, air conditioner, tie themselves etc?”

“Someone will be hijacked these shoes this is South Africa”

“Whole 50 k for this nonsense”
