Bongani Zungu is set to leave French Ligue 2 side Amiens, and there is talk that he could be set for a move to a big South African side.

Zungu, who played several matches for Bafana Bafana and could now be a sought-after recruit for the likes of Chiefs or Sundowns, signed for Scottish club Rangers on loan from Amiens in October 2020.

Rangers also secured an option to sign him permanently for a £2.7 million transfer fee. However, his first association with Amiens began when he joined the club from Vitoria Guimarares in 2017.

The 29-year-old is entering the final stages of his contract, and with his game time for Amiens proving to be sporadic, it’s now been confirmed that he is longer part of the club’s plans going forward.

TRANSFER TALK: TWO TARGETS CHIEFS UNLIKELY TO SIGN

“We’ve held talks with the club about a new contract, but my decision is that I will be leaving,” Zungu said recently

“I am a free agent now and my agent will be looking at my next move. Hopefully it will be another project that I can get excited about. We will know in the coming weeks, for now I can’t really discuss the options that are available.”

According to SABC Sport, Chiefs could still be interested in pursuing Zungu, who is seen as a priority marquee signing ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

As it is, the overwhelming sentiment is that he will rather remain in Europe, which appears to be the likely outcome for the talented playmaker.

Recently, though, Zungu opened up on Sports Night Amplified about his current situation and plans for the future, suggesting that only Sundowns had contacted his agent.
