Vilakazi has been linked with Chiefs before and during his time at Sundowns and was also thought to be on their radar for the next season,

Vilakazi’s deal set to expire at Sundowns

The former Bafana Bafana international is set to be a free agent when his contract expires at Sundowns at the end of the season. So far, there have been no strong indications that The Brazilians are looking to extend Vilakazi’s deal, which has then prompted the return of the rumours linking him to Chiefs. Amakhosi have been known to favour free agent deals, and have a track record of signing older players come from Sundowns, which added further fuel to the fire. The likes of Jose Torealba, Leonardo Castro and Khama Billiat are examples of these transfers to name but a few.

Vilakazi was famously a huge target for Chiefs after leaving the now defunct Bidvest Wits back in 2012, with an overseas move mooted at that time. However, when that did not materialise, he was then picked up by Sundowns instead, in what was believed to be a big money move. Although he did show his quality early on, his time at Ka bo Yellow has proven to be blighted with injuries. Now with them intent on adding even more firepower to their squad for yet another attempt at the CAF Champions League next season, it looks likes the older and fringe players will be the ones who will make room. Unfortunately for ‘Vila’ he seems to be placed in that category.

No Vila at Chiefs!

It, however, seems like it will be heartbreak for the Chiefs fans who would’ve still harboured hope of seeing Vilakazi in their club jersey next season. This is due to a Twitter conversation where the club’s sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jnr seemed to confirm that Amakhosi will not be pursuing the player. Club fan ‘Sheikh Bilal’ tweeted “There is no need for Sbu Vilakazi” before taking the club’s official twitter account as well as that of Motaung Jnr. Another eagle eyed fan then spotted that Kaizer Jnr had retweeted the original tweet, and saw that as an endorsement of the message.

Another fan then asked, if that retweet was indeed an endorsement, to which Kaizer Jnr’s response of ‘100%’ seemed to confirm that he was endorsing the message. That then seems to put the Chiefs-Vilakazi transfer saga to bed. Take a look at the conversation below and decide for yourselves.
