A Durban father is waiting with bated breath for the release of his son’s body from the Phoenix State Mortuary in KwaZulu-Natal on Monday. He made an emotional appeal over the weekend on social media for help which was answered by eThekwini Municipality’s deputy mayor.

NEGLECTED AND ALONE IN A BODY BAG ON THE FLOOR

Karl Dauth took to Facebook on Saturday where he shared an emotional post accompanied by pictures of his son Jared who had passed away over a week ago.

“My son who passed has been at Phoenix State Mortuary since last Saturday I went to identify his body, he was in the same police body bag lying on the floor, the mortuary is over full, they have no water to do autopsies, it is absolutely terrible to know your son is lying in that state I tried to report this to everyone and got one response, yet the Premier gets water delivered to his house, I heard I can bribe someone cost between R2000 and R5000, so this is what I’m going to try and do, so sad I just got to keep saying it’s just his body his soul is gone, but is so hard.”

posted Karl Dauth on Facebook.

His release of frustration and appeal for help has garnered over 400 comments, 900 shares and 600 comments.

Dauth had been communicating with the DA’s KwaZulu-Natal spokesperson on health Rishigen Viranna about the issue who was liaising with the mortuary.

Viranna described the mortuary as being in terrible condition and inhumane for the deceased and their family.

“I have raised the complaints with my health committee chairperson for an oversight visit of the Phoenix Mortuary in the week,”

said the DA’s Viranna.

MORTUARY TO RELEASE BODY OVER A WEEK LATER

Dauth said he was contacted by eThekwini Municipality’s deputy mayor Philani Mavundla on Sunday morning.

“I have just had word from the Deputy Mayor that my son’s body will be ready to collect at 11 am on Monday,” he said.

Now all that the family can do is hope that Jared’s body is released on time from the mortuary to end their ordeal.

Dauth says, although his son is gone he is safe in the afterlife with his grandparents.
