Former Orlando Pirates captain Thulani Hlatshwayo has reportedly made his mind up over a potential Kaizer Chiefs switch.

Hlatshwayo was released by Pirates as recently as last week and it hasn’t taken long for audacious links to Chiefs to surface.
Hlatshwayo dropped from Bafana Bafana
It has been a torrid year and a bit for Hlatshwayo who saw himself dropped completely from the Bafana Bafana squad upon Hugo Broos’s appointment. That came on the back of the player already falling out of favour at Pirates under then coach Jozef Zinnbauer. Even after the German tactician had left the club, the centre back continued to struggle to command a regular place in the Buccaneers’ starting line-up under co-coaches Mandla Ncikazi and the now departed Fadlu Davids.

It seemed like Hlatshwayo’s fate was sealed after his underweighted pass gifted Chiefs a goal in a Soweto Derby win over Pirates last season, but now ironically, Amakhosi have been mentioned as a club linked to the services of the former national team captain. Interestingly enough, sources speaking to The Citizen claim that the player would be keen ton switch to the other side of the Soweto divide!
His stance on joining Chiefs
“I know a lot of people will be surprised, but he (Hlatshwayo) would really go to Chiefs if they offer him a contract. You know sometimes, we just have conversations and this thing of Chiefs came up. So, that’s when I realised that he won’t think twice about joining them if they really want him,” Said the source.

The source went on to share reasons why Hlatshwayo would be willing to join Chiefs, despite his Pirates affiliation.
Reasons behind the stance
“Football is business and a short career, so, for him will all be about making sure that he revives his career and people see the old him. He didn’t have a good time at Pirates and we all saw that. But, such things happen and what I know for sure is that he won’t stay long without a team because people still believe in him.” Continued the source.

It is very hard to see Hlatshwayo being approached by Chiefs, as the club are currently undergoing a rebuild. Front and centre of that rebuild will be ensuring that the age average drops drastically from the previous seasons. The former Bidvest Wits player is set to turn 33 in December and after his decline, it would be a shock if the Glamour Boys even found his potential signing as appealing.
