Kaizer Chiefs are no strangers to producing exceptional young talent.
One youngster has stood out above the rest this season, having been handed his first-team debut back in August. Mduduzi Shabalala is only 18 years old but fans have every reason to get excited about his insane potential.
With so much happening off the pitch with Amakhosi’s senior stars, let’s take a closer look at the talented teenager who scored on his senior Kaizer Chiefs debut.

MEET KAIZER CHIEFS PRODIGY MDUDUZI SHABALALA
The Amakhosi youngster has only played a grand total of three minutes for the club, but he’s already got his first goal in the famous colours of Kaizer Chiefs. It was a typical poacher’s goal, scored against Maritzburg United on the second day of the DStv Premiership season. Shabalala is now also a part of the Bafana Bafana U23 setup. Mduduzi also signed a new three-year deal with Chiefs back in June.

WHAT’S MDU’S STYLE OF PLAY?
Shabalala is known for his exceptional balance, pace, flair, agility, dribbling and close control. As a diminutive attacker he won’t be winning too many aerial duels, but he’ll certainly be causing defenders all sorts of problems on the ground. It’s uncertain what his best position is just yet, but he can operate in a variety of attacking roles.
CONTRACTS: Six Chiefs stars with deals expiring in June 2023
Perhaps he’ll eventually settle as an attacking midfielder from wide areas. Ever seen Barcelona’s new number 10 Ansu Fati in action? Not to heap pressure on the kid, but there are stylistic similarities in the way he carries the ball. This boy can play. The new Khama Billiat?

There is a huge clamour among Amakhosi fans for the youngster to be given more game time. He is clearly a talented footballer, but Chiefs will need to manage him and the growing expectations starting to mount on his shoulders.
Mdu Shabalala is undoubtedly one to look out for at the resumption of the DStv Premiership season. We have a sneaky feeling that we’ll be hearing an awful lot more from this kid.
