Khayelitsha woman stabbed to death in Site C – boyfriend sought by police

A 29-year-old woman was found dead in the street in Site C, Khayelitsha on Sunday evening, 8 May. The incident is unrelated to the mass shooting that claimed six lives in the same area, said police on Monday.

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said the incident took place at 18:45 in Maphongwana Street in Taiwan, Site C, Khayelitsha.

“According to reports Khayelitsha SAPS members received a complaint of a stabbed victim at the mentioned address and on arrival found the 29-year-old victim lying on the street with a stab wound to her body,” said van Wyk.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. No arrests have been made but the authorities suspect the motive for the alleged murder is related to domestic violence.

The Khayelitsha police are looking for the victim’s boyfriend, Sivuyile Tshabile, as they believe he may be able to aid the investigation.

Members of the public with information about the fatal stabbing incident are encouraged to contact Crime Stop at 08600-10111.

Western Cape Commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembisile Patekile said crimes against women and children remain a top priority for the provincial police service and added it “will do anything possible to arrest perpetrators.”

In an unrelated incident, six men were shot and killed in Site C on Sunday night. The police were called to the corner of Maphongwana and Idada Street at approximately 20:00.

Five of the victims died at the scene, while the sixth died en route to a medical facility.

“Organised crime detectives are hard at work busy with an investigation which was initiated immediately,” said Brigadier Novela Potelwa.
