City of Cape MayCo Member for Safety and Security, Councillor JP Smith, said a light aircraft went down in the Luzuko area of Lower Crossroads shortly before 18:00 on Tuesday.

Photographs and videos – shared by the City – of the scene show dozens of first responders on the scene around the aircraft while an even greater number of people watch from a distance.

An aerial shot of the scene, presumably taken shortly after the crash and before the authorities had cordoned off the crash site, shows members of the public crowded around the aircraft.

This is a developing story.
