AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu has confirmed the signing of Orlando Pirates striker Gabadinho Mhango as Tapelo Xoki heads in the opposition direction to the Buccaneers.

Malawi’s Mhango, 29, has previously represented Bloemfontein Celtic, Golden Arrows and Bidvest Wits and has scored 54 goals in 166 total matches during his time in the PSL’s top-flight.

He found the back of the net 23 times in 71 games for the Soweto giants before falling out of favour this season and being courted by KwaZulu-Natal side Usuthu.

Meanwhile, Centre-back Xoki, 27, made 38 appearances in all competitions this campaign as AmaZulu ended in seventh place in the DStv Premiership standings.

Zungu told Ukhozi FM: “Dr Irvin Khoza did contact me personally about Tapelo Xoki and we’ve spoken.

“I respect him for the way he handled it, so Xoki will leave us, he played his last game yesterday (Tuesday) and Gabadinho Mhango is joining us.”

Orlando Pirates are currently in sixth place in the DStv Premiership log with two matches – both on the road – still to play.

They will take on Royal AM on Friday, 27 May (19:30) and SuperSport United on Monday, 30 May at 18:00.

The Buccaneers need to win both games to assure themselves of the the runner-up position and the reward of a CAF Champions League spot next season.
