A former Orlando Pirates midfielder Gerald Modabi is adamant Benni McCarthy is the right man to steer the Buccaneers’ ship!

This comes just days after the legendary Bafana Bafana striker was sacked by AmaZulu FC.

According to the former Orlando Pirates midfielder, the club should do everything in their power to get Benni McCarthy to take over the reins at the Mayfair based club.

McCarthy was sacked at AmaZulu, a season after guiding them to a club record second position finish in the league.

Benni McCarthy also took AmaZulu through a historic CAF Champions League qualifying campaign before making it to an unprecedented group stage finish.

Orlando Pirates were knocked out of both the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup competitions while they stand virtually no chance of catching up with Mamelodi Sundowns in the league.

The Buccaneers however are still in the running in terms of the CAF Confederation Cup however Modabi believes it’s time for Fadlu Davids and Mandla Ncikazi to be replaced by Benni McCarthy!

Ex Orlando Pirates midfielder calls for Benni McCarthy appointment!

“I think Benni will do wonders at Orlando Pirates, he has the ability to make a team tick, look at what he did with AmaZulu.” Modabi told Citizen.

“He made them one of the top teams in the country. I really believe that he is one coach who can make Pirates be the best team they are meant to be.

“You look at the Orlando Pirates squad, there are quality players in that team, yet they fail to compete with Sundowns. I think they are the only team that can go toe to toe with Sundowns.

“They just need the right coach and the right coach. They should poach him and not waste any time because I am sure there are some teams who might also want to sign him.

“Once Pirates hire McCarthy, I am confident that they will be able to win the league in his first season with the club. He is the right coach and the right man for the Orlando Pirates job.”
