Pitso Mosimane stunned the football world when he asked to be released from his role as Al Ahly head coach on Monday.
‘Jingles’ penned a heartfelt letter thanking the Egyptian side’s board and fans for his 20 months at the club.

As reported by The South African website, Al Ahly confirmed Mosimane’s exit with immediate effect.

The news came just three months after the 57-year-old tactician penned a two-year extension to his contract worth a reported R2.5 million per month.

Mosimane left Mamelodi Sundowns in September 2020 to take up the Al Ahly job.

In his time at the helm, Pitso Mosimane guided Al Ahly to no fewer than FIVE major trophies, winning the Egypt Cup (2019/20), CAF Champions League (2019/20, 2020/21) and CAF Super Cup (2020, 2021).
He also picked up two bronze medals at the Club World Cup.

Mosimane fell short of winning a third consecutive CAF Champions League title last month, losing 2-0 to Morocco’s Wydad Athletic Club in the final which was controversially held in Casablanca, Morocco.

In total Mosimane was in charge of 97 matches at Al Ahly, of which the Egyptian giants won 65 (67%), drew 22 and lost just 10.
Meanwhile, Al Ahly have announced that previous assistant manager Samy Komsan will take charge of the club as interim manager.
Mosimane’s backroom staff members Kabelo Rangoaga, Musi Matlaba and Kyle Solomon have all left to the North African side as well.
