Police make breakthrough after 6 killed in Khayelitsha shooting


Khayelitsha in Cape Town has become even more of a hotspot for shootings in recent months. Last week, six people were shot and killed in the Enkanini informal settlement. Police now say they have managed to nab the man they believe is behind it all.

Suspect arrested after Khayelitsha shooting

Organised crime detectives have arrested a 35-year-old. He is facing murder charges and will now appear at the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Last week’s shooting saw two women and four men between the ages of 18 and 27 shot dead. The circumstances around the shooting are still not clear.

What we do know, is that police say three gunmen carried out the shooting.

And with two suspects still seemingly on the loose, Police say more arrests will be made shortly.

“As the investigation gains momentum the detectives assigned to the case have their sights set on specific leads with more arrests imminent.”

The streets of Durban are clearly not safe either. And now it seems we aren’t even safe in church. One off duty police officer found that out the hard way on Friday evening.

An off-duty Durban police officer attended his church service in the area during the evening. Just as everything seemed normal and the officer was talking to a woman outside, criminals took their chance.

Police say three men ran up to the officer and the woman. All of their cellphones were stolen. Things then escalated and took a turn for the worst. One of the robbers made a move for the police officer’s gun.

The officer and the robbers ended up with gunshot wounds. Several churchgoers also left with their cars boasting gunshot holes. Four suspects were arrested.
