The Gauteng Department of Education confirmed that the 36 learners from the Leondale High School who were captured on video smoking dagga and acting a fool had been suspended.

THE VIDEO OF THE PUFFING AND PASSING LEARNERS HAS GONE VIRAL

Gauteng MEC for Education Panyaza Lesufi said the learners who were captured smoking dagga within the school premises have been removed and suspended from the school.

The disciplinary hearing of the group of learners will be held on Monday.

The video that has been uploaded to social media has gone viral. In the video, several learners in school uniforms can be seen on the school grounds smoking joints of dagga.

THIS COMES ONLY WEEKS AFTER OTHER GAUTENG LEARNERS WERE HOSPITALISED

Some learners proudly pose for the video while others blow the smoke toward the camera. Others are seen dancing and acting weirdly.

This comes only weeks after several learners from Gauteng schools have reportedly been hospitalised after consuming space cakes.

A space cake can be a muffin, brownie or any other baked good with cannabis people eat to get “high”.

According to the Gauteng Education Department, learners from Randfontein High School in the West Rand and Mamellong Secondary School in Tsakane, Ekurhuleni were hospitalised on Thursday, 7 April 2022 and Saturday, 9 April 2022 respectively.

GAUTENG LEARNERS HOSPITALISED AFTER EATING SPACE CAKES

Approximately eleven Grade 12 learners at Randfontein High School reportedly felt sick during schooling hours on Thursday. They were immediately rushed to separate medical facilities for medical attention.

Two of the learners were returned home, while nine learners were hospitalised, one of whom was in a critical condition but is now stable.

It was established that these learners consumed ‘space cakes’ sold by another Grade 12 learner. The learner is now facing suspension as a result of breaking the school’s code of conduct and endangering the lives of his fellow learners.
