According to one of the coaches behind the magnificent dominance, Rhulani Mokwena, the Soweto giants should no longer remain stuck in the past.

It’s a difficult thing to try and compete with Sundowns and I know that because I was here, and I left to the other side, and we did our level best to compete with Sundowns for the time that I was there but the reality is that you need a little bit more than will power and desire and maybe more than history,” Rhulani said.

“At the end of the day, part to everyday success is not the past in isolation, although it can help in relation to giving you motivation to get to higher levels, because the past dictates where you got and that should only be what history is good for.

“But in football they always say the next game is the most important and your current success speaks more than history and I think in a certain way as a generation, we tend to live too much in history.

A good sparring partner always helps the champion,” the former Pirates coach concluded.
