A group of nine robbers have been arrested for allegedly using blue lights to pull over vehicles before hijacking them. The South African Police Services (SAPS) released a statement saying that a multi-disciplinary intelligence-driven operation led to the apprehension of the nine suspects.

Members from the Provincial Serious and Violence Crime Detectives, Tactical Response Team (TRT), K9 unit and private security companies followed up on information. The information was about a group of suspects who were allegedly linked to numerous hijacking cases.

Two vehicles with tempered engine numbers, a 9mm piston with ammunition, a gas pistol, a R5 rifle with ammunition, a blue light, Metro Police reflector jackets, a siren speaker, a jammer, SAPS bulletproof vests and cash were also seized by SAPS.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Gauteng Major General Girly Mbele commended the efforts of the team that arrested the nine suspects. The “tenacious efforts” of the team were applauded by Mbele.

KZN woman allegedly raped by officer inside police station

In more news about the SAPS, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Social Development MEC, Nonhlanhla Khoza, has expressed shock and disgust at allegations that a police officer raped a woman at the KwaHlabisa Police Station premises.

The traumatised woman appealed for help through a community radio station in Nongoma on Tuesday, 29 March. It is alleged that a woman had an argument with her boyfriend who forced her to leave the house. Reportedly, the woman approached the police to plead with them to rescue her.

A SAPS vehicle was dispatched to fetch her the next day. Unfortunately, while she was in the police station, it is alleged that one police officer who was on duty started harassing her, demanding sex.

He allegedly stopped when he saw a fellow SAPS officer approaching them. When he went back into the vehicle, the officer left in the Community Service Centre forced the woman to sleep with him. Read the full story here.
