The Complete Winners List – VIBE.com

It’s been yet another precarious summer for music and the culture at large. This year’s hottest season was marked by even hotter events like DaBaby debacle, Kanye West and Drake’s album war, a history-making Verzuz battle between The Lox and Dipset, and the shocking deaths of industry icons, all while the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rage on.

So let’s end the summer on a high note with the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) airing live tonight (Sept. 12) at 8 p.m. ET/PT from the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Hosted by Doja Cat, tonight’s festivities will include an in-person audience unlike last year’s ceremony, which took place in various locations across New York City. ViacomCBS will require all Red Carpet Attendees and Seated Superfans to be fully vaccinated and wear appropriate face coverings at all times. Meanwhile, Pit Fans must be fully vaccinated or have a negative COVID test result no more than two days prior to the show.

Houston Hottie Megan Thee Stallion earned a whopping six nominations including four for the twerk anthem “WAP” with Cardi B. The “Hot Girl Summer” rapper is followed by a handful of acts tied at five nods each, including Doja Cat, Drake, Giveon, and Lil Nas X. Cardi B and Saweetie also represent for the ladies on the hip-hop front each earning multiple nominations along with their male counterparts including Polo G and Lil Baby. Beyoncé, The Weeknd, H.E.R., SZA, and Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak as the duo Silk Sonic all snagged nominations for their soulful songs. In fact, Lenny Kravitz and WILLOW even got us covered in the Best Rock and Best Alternative categories respectively. So needless to say, we ready!

The most anticipated part of the night is, of course, the live performances. After months of teasing, backlash from opponents, and support from fans, will Lil Nas X finally “dance naked on stage for charity”? And what about that baby bump? Chlöe of sisters duo Chloe x Halle gave us more than a glimpse of what we might see during her stage show when she released her jaw-dropping video for “Have Mercy” this past Friday (Sept. 10). And cancel culture redemption queen Doja Cat will be on double duty as she too is set to perform and as evidenced by her recent Pepsi ad, there’s no task this sultry chameleon can’t handle.

Always a showstopper, Alicia Keys will perform her newly released single “LALA” with Swae Lee. We hope Normani shows us more of her “Wild Side” during her live act and Best New Artist Polo G was released from jail just in time for his debut on the VMAs stage. Other live performances include Justin Bieber, Camila Cabello, Ed Sheeran, and more.

The ceremony will broadcast live on multiple television channels including MTV, MTV2, VH1, Paramount+, the CW, Comedy Central, CMT, Nickelodeon, Logo, Pop, and TV Land. Streaming services including Hulu + Live TV, fuboTV, and Sling TV, will also provide live television options.

Check out the complete list of the 2021 MTV VMA nominations below and stay tuned as we will be updating the winners throughout the night.
