Robbers threaten to AMPUTATE woman’s hands during robbery

A 44-year-old woman almost had her hand amputated during a home invasion on Thursday on Flamingo Way in Dawncrest, KwaZulu-Natal.

While a family was having dinner around 19:00, they heard a noise in the yard. 

When a 50-year-old man approached the front door to investigate what is happening, he was pointed a gun by the robber.

Man dies of Lassa fever in KwaZulu-Natal hospital, says NICD

A case of Lassa fever was diagnosed in a patient in KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday, 12 May. The man travelled extensively through Nigeria – one of the countries where the virus is endemic – before returning to South Africa.

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) said the man fell ill after he returned to the country and was admitted to a Pietermaritzburg hospital.

The patient’s Lassa fever diagnosis was confirmed through laboratory testing at the NICD National Health Laboratory Service.

The 52-year-old Thembi Jele said she was the first in her family to ever graduate.

“No one in my family has ever graduated. I am the first one in my family to attempt to study and graduate.

“Although I was nervous and sometimes scared of what I would encounter during my journey, I persevered,” she said.

Taxi fare INCREASE starting July – not good for commuters’ pockets

With fuel already costing motorists a lot of money, taxi commuters across the country can also expect fare increases starting in July.

South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) confirmed the increase this week, after their 6th national elective conference which was held in Sun City.

SANTACO Public relations officer, Boy Zondi said the organisation has decided that taxi fare increases will be done annually.

R50 000 reward offered to help find murderers of young father killed on N4

The family of the young father who was brutally murdered in front of his wife and baby on the N4 said an R50 000 reward is offered for information that could lead to the successful arrest and conviction of the three murderers.

This comes after the family of the young father killed in front of his wife and baby on the N4 demanded answers from Cele on why some murder cases were getting preferential treatment.

Juandre Kidson (29) from Brits was shot and killed in front of his wife and baby on the N4 while begging for mercy for his family. His wife, Johanette, was shot in the shoulder as she fought the robbers off, who tried to grab their baby from her arms.
