Meikles, a five-star hotel in Zimbabwe made headlines this week for offering guests hot bathwater using buckets.
The hotel said it had been operating on a generator since last Saturday due to a fault that developed within the Central Business District of the country’s capital city.
MEIKLES HOTEL OFFERS GUESTS HOT BATHWATER IN BUCKETS
For over 100 years Meikles has been acclaimed as Zimbabwe’s premier luxury five-star hotel with gracious charm and silver-service.
Meikles is reportedly a legendary meeting place for international business executives, dignitaries, leisure travellers and celebrities.
“The Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority is working around the clock to try to fix the problem.
“Considering the above, the air conditioning in the rooms and public areas is not working, and there is no hot water. If you require hot water for bathing, please contact our housekeeping department on Extension 82, and a bucket will be delivered to you. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
The issue was however later resolved and services in the Meikles Hotel resumed back to normal.
The hotel also thanked its guests and staff for their cooperation and understanding during what it termed a challenging time.
Shortly after the notice to the guests was circulated online, social media users did not hesitate to create memes and jokes from this very unfortunate situation.
“This is what we mean when we say Corrupt and Incompetent Rule has crippled everything in the country. Nothing works when you appoint incompetent and corrupt CEOs to run the country’s power company. Meikles Hotel is the best in Zimbabwe, but its guests are bathing in cold water.”
